Raton Pass Camp and Cafe was also a repeat stop.
The RV park is halfway between Raton NM and Trinidad CO, on our first afternoon we drove into Raton and ate at the The Icehouse, right across from the old powerhouse. Then for dinner, we went into Trinidad and saw the Coal Miner Memorial, and right next door was the Trinidad Smokehouse, where I got a great ribeye steak.
On our second day, we went to Trinidad and looked at Engine 638, went to the Visitor Center, and then ate at an excellent Mexican food place, El Rancho. El Rancho was one of those places where you’re not sure you want to go in, but the food was great. Afterwards we drove to Raton to the Post Office and ElizaBeth went to the quilt shop, Patchwork Phoenix.
We rested a little on the last day, it was the 20 year anniversary of 9/11 and we watched most of the memorial TV programming. We did get to play ball, even though there was not a dog park, and went into Raton and ate at Casa Lemus Inn. The park is literally at the top of the world. I saved this little caterpillar trying to make it across the parking lot.
