Missoula is surrounded by the Bitterroot Mountains, Sapphire Range, Garnet Range, Rattlesnake Mountains, and the Reservation Divide, and is often described as being the “hub of five valleys”.
The five valleys are the Clark Fork Valley to the West, Flathead Valley to the North, Blackfoot Valley to the NE, Deerlodge Valley to the East and the Bitterroot Valley to the South. We visited several quilt shops, and went looking for fishing access points. I found a really good one on the Clark Fork that we’ll hit when we come back on the way to Bozeman.
Date meals were a brunch at the Montana Club where I had a bison ribeye, and El Cazador where I was able to eat a seafood relleno with real chile.
Visits were to the Museum of Mountain Flying, the Smokejumpers Visitor Center, and the National Museum of Forest Service History. I bought a book about the Mann Gulch Fire.
We went downtown and walked around, and then took a driving tour of the University of Montana. We’ll be back in 5 days after we turnaround in Coeur d’Alene.
The Navigator takes pictures on the way as we drive.
