We are close to Tucumcari but since we had stayed there two years ago, we wanted to stay somewhere different and booked a reservation at Ute Lake State Park in Logan, NM.
We did drive in the town of Tucumcari, though, as there were some museums we didn’t see last time. First we hit the Tucumcari Memorial Museum, afterwards we went to the Railroad Museum. When we were here before, we could only take pictures from the outside. We are glad to see that the town continues to work on reviving the downtown area.
After the museums, we stopped by a quilt shop and then we had lunch at Kix on 66, I was able to eat some real green chile. On the way back, we drove by the NMSU Rex Kirksey Ag Science Center – I worked with Rex, who retired before I did. And naturally, the all of us enjoyed the state park!
We see so many cool things as we drive around – this was a pile of wind turbine blades! The bridge was the old route over the Canadian River by the lake.
